I cannot wait to show you guys these awesome handmade Guaymi tribal dresses my mom brought the girls from her recent trip to visit her family in Panama! These dresses are crafted by the Guaymi (Ngobe-Bugle) tribe of Panama.
Did I tell you guys how sad I am that I didn’t get to go with my mom last month to visit our family? It’s just too difficult to leave The Hubs home with both girls right now, and there is now way I am even going to think about traveling with one or both of them to mountain areas of Panama.
Anyhoo, I am happy that Mom got to go and see her brothers, sisters-in-law, aunts, and tons of nieces and nephews. She and some of the family also participated in a church-led mission while there which helped a village of indigenous families in the mountain areas of Panama. She saw many of the women and kids wearing beautiful handmade Guaymi tribal dresses. The Guaymi tribe is one of the most populous indigenous groups of Panama, and many reside in the Chiriqui region, which is where most of my family lives. Every time I visit Panama, I am left wanting to learn more and more. If you are interested in the history of this group, check out this informative site on Panama and the Guaymi.
Of course, Mom’s nietas (granddaughters) needed some cute Guaymi tribal dresses, too.
Are these not the most darling little dresses ever?
The girls’ Guaymi tribal dresses put me in the mood for tribal print. Although my top is not Guaymi-produced, it is one of my favorite tribal pieces. I found it at one of my favorite local boutiques a few months back. I love how my wedge booties help to transition it to fall.
I don’t take out this orange bag nearly enough. It holds a ton and can double as my diaper bag. Gotta love that!
