If you only knew how tight this guy and I are. I mean we have spent hours upon hours together over the last few years. But only one of us knows it.
Since becoming entrenched in research for my MA in Second Language Acquisition and Pedagogy over the last years, I’ve had no choice but to become close to this man. And even more so this past year while working on my thesis on Pop Culture Modules for the Exploratory Spanish Classroom.
I was so excited when I learned he was the keynote speaker for our Arkansas TESOL conference a few weeks ago. My coworker friends who joined me at the conference gave me an undue amount of grief over my “Krashen crush.” Hmmmpph…apparently, they have not stayed up till 2 a.m. in a language acquisition stupor, analyzing his theories and attempting to justify their inclusion in a particular thesis subtopic.
At the conference, I stalked him for a photo op like a drunk groupie at a rock concert. I should have been ashamed. But I wasn’t.
My favorite quote of his altogether was, “Did you read The Hunger Games? Oh, my gosh. I love The Hunger Games. It’s all about the Common Core – the race to the top.”
